About Karen

Karen Mihalyi, founder and longtime director of the Syracuse Community Choir, is a lifelong community organizer and cultural worker with deep roots in our community. With a steadfast promise to social and Earth justice, she has tirelessly sought to nurture relationships with the Onondaga Nation, and those across generations, abilities, races, genders, and class distinctions– all through and with the power of song and collective singing.

We honor Karen’s decades-long advocacy for inclusion and fairness and celebrate the choir’s 40th year of singing in beloved community.
